Self-Powered Tag Tracks Fish Longer

Self-Powered Tag Tracks Fish Longer
Sep-29-16
A new tracking tag for fish harnesses the energy of the animal’s movements to self-charge, allowing for longer monitoring times.

The self-charging, implanted tag, developed by a team from PNNL to study the behavior of long-living fish, is powered by a flexible strip of piezoelectric materials. As the fish swims, the tag recharges, allowing the researchers to track and study the fish for the duration of its lifetime.
