Shape-Shifting Robot Changes Exoskeletons

Shape-Shifting Robot Changes Exoskeletons
Sep-28-17
Origami-inspired exoskeletons can let robots change outfits to perform different tasks.

Created by MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the robots are designed to work with the cubical Primer robot, which moves with magnets and vibrations. The robot can effectively take on various roles by wrapping itself in the piece of flat plastic, which forms an exoskeleton for different functions. Some of the exoskeletons include Walk-bot, Boat-bot, and Glider-bot.
