Researchers have created a new ‘smarter' window able to change from opaque to clear in seconds.
While smart windows able to change tint have been around for a bit, most of them are hampered by the time it takes to change, and also tend to become less opaque over time.
As a more effective alternative, the team from Stanford University created a smart window prototype made of a transparent sheet of electrically-conductive indium tin oxide placed between a pair of clear glass plates. When triggered by a current, the window will turn from opaque to clear and back again within thirty seconds, with no residual tint and no degradation.
