The temporary SPRINT Peripheral Nerve Stimulation device has been cleared by the FDA to help treat chronic pain.
The SPRINT PNS system is completely removable, and is the first of its kind to be cleared for use in the U.S. Developed by SPR Therapeutics, the SPRINT is about the size of a large bandage, and can be placed on the patient by a doctor during an outpatient procedure. The device can target a nerve up to three centimeters away from the tip, and can remain in place for up to thirty days.
The team hopes the newly available device will help reduce the dependence on drugs—specifically opioids.
