Tapping Wearable Measures Tendon Stress

Tapping Wearable Measures Tendon Stress
Apr-27-18
A wearable able to track tendon tension non-invasively could offer a new way to treat injuries.

The wearable gauges the amount of tension in the wearer’s tendon as they move by tapping on the collagen band about fifty times per second. This tapping generates a wave in the tendon, the speed of which is then measured by a pair of accelerometers to track how the vibrations of the tendon alter during movement.

The prototype device could have a range of applications in areas such as rehabilitation, orthopedics, and sports.
