Tracking Parkinson's Symptoms with Wearable Sensors

Tracking Parkinson's Symptoms with Wearable Sensors
Feb-09-15
The PERFORM system lets physicians monitor the symptoms of Parkinson's disease remotely, improving the patient's quality of life while also building a personalized treatment program.

Partially funded by the European Commission, the goal of the PERFORM project is to develop affordable, wearable accelerometer sensors able to continually collect data and transmit the information via a smartphone to a hospital or clinic. That information would then be compiled into a daily report that would allow the patient's physician to note any changes and investigate them further.

In tests with actual patients, the PERFORM system was deemed comfortable and easy enough to use.
