Vortex Ring Generator Helps Airline Passengers Breathe Easier

Vortex Ring Generator Helps Airline Passengers Breathe Easier
Aug-03-16
Air travel may soon be a bit more comfortable thanks to a personal humidifier system developed by the team from Fraunhofer.

Typically, the humidity in an aircraft is kept low to help prevent condensation buildup, which can be quite uncomfortable for passengers. To help improve the flying experience, the Fraunhofer team created a personal misting system designed to fit in the backs of the airliner seats. The ‘vortex ring generator,’ as it is called, would send small bursts of humid air directly to the passenger’s upper torso, where it would then float up to the mouth and nose to increase the immediate humidity level up to 15 percent.
