Wearable Hydration Monitor

Wearable Hydration Monitor
Jan-31-17
A hydration monitoring patch could help prevent wearers, like soldiers or athletes, from becoming dangerously dehydrated.

The monitor, developed by a team from North Carolina State University, can be worn either as a chest patch or on the wrist. A pair of silver nanowire electrodes embedded in a flexible polymer measure the electrical impedance of the skin, which is an indicator of the body’s hydration. That information is sent to a paired device via Bluetooth, where the companion app will translate the information and trigger an alert if the wearer is nearing dangerous dehydration levels.
