Wheel-Shaped Ourobot Shifts to Traverse Obstacles

Wheel-Shaped Ourobot Shifts to Traverse Obstacles
Aug-03-16
Inspired by the mythical Ouroboros, the wheel-shaped Ourobot travels varied terrain with a ring of shifting segments.

Created by a team of students from Germany's Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, the Ourobot consists of twelve segments each equipped with a motor and pressure sensor. As the bot rolls along the ground, the sensors will detect obstacles and trigger the segments to flatten appropriately in order to climb over them.

Currently, the Ourobot can only travel in a straight line, but the team hopes to provide the bot with more options as the design evolves.
