Whoosh Gives Smartphones Breath Control

Whoosh Gives Smartphones Breath Control
Jan-30-17
The Whoosh technology from Georgia Tech could see users controlling their smartwatches with their breath.

Designed with the small size of smartwatch screens in mind, the Whoosh system allows users to control their watch hands-free, using only their breath. Using the smartwatch’s microphone, the Whooh app learns the sounds and patterns of different “acoustic events,” such as sipping or puffing. These distinct sounds can then be assigned a command, such as shushing the watch to ignore call, or blowing on the face to erase an incorrect word in a dictated text message.

The Whoosh app is just one Georgia Tech’s novel smartphone control options, which also include the WatchOut and TapSkin.
