Wood-Based Straws Degrade to Prevent Plastic Waste

Wood-Based Straws Degrade to Prevent Plastic Waste
Dec-21-18
The marine-biodegradable straws from Sulapac could offer an eco-friendly alternative to plastic.

The straws are made from a completely biodegradable material patented by Sulapac made from waste wood chips and a natural binder. They can be used just like standard straws, but will break down completely into water, biomass and carbon dioxide when exposed to common microorganisms in the ocean or composting facility. In addition to the straws, Sulpac has created water-, oil- and oxygen-resistant jars and small boxes made from the material.
