A wristband able to monitor the activity and environment of dementia patients could aid in treatment by offering personalized options.
Developed by the team at Fraunhofer, the wristband is equipped with an array of sensors able to monitor the vitals of the wearer—such as heart rate and perspiration—as well as the surrounding environment (temperature, brightness and noise) and wrist movement. The data is analyzed to offer personalized treatment options that would monitor the progress of the disease while also helping the patient stay independent longer.
According to the Fraunhofer team, the wrist sensor is discreet enough to be worn continuously, allowing patients and caregivers to track their progress over the course of years.
