The carrier that is coated with ceramic, is claimed. The ceramic comprises a micro-structured ceramic layer applied on the carrier. The micro-structured ceramic layer is functionalized with an enzyme having an anti-bacterial activity, is made of nano-particles with a diameter of 100-500 nm, and has a pattern made of crests and troughs and having a height difference between the crest and trough of 5-15 mu m. The carrier is made of metal, plastic and/or ceramic. The enzyme is covalently bonded to the micro-structured ceramic layer optionally using a linking compound such as siloxane compound. An independent claim is included for a method for producing a carrier.
