NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Flexible Carbon-based Ohmic Contacts for Organic Transistors provides one of a handful of enabling technologies in support of the development of organic electronic circuits and devices. Flexible electronics are an emerging technology area that enables a broad range of new products including foldable displays, digital paper and electronic textiles. This new NASA technology fills a significant gap in the field of organic transistors--the need for flexible, stable ohmic contacts that can be printed or processed at low temperatures. By utilizing a composite material, a unique range of properties unattainable in any single material can be achieved. This includes excellent mechanical and electrical properties, providing a viable alternative to both metallic and conducting polymer contacts.
