Energy Absorbing Protective Shroud Against High Speed Machinery (MSC-22823)

Abstract:
The most promising area of potential commercial use of this technology is in the aviation/aerospace industry. The technology can be used to encapsulate any high-speed machinery that could pose a serious threat in cases of catastrophic failure. The technology could be adapted for use in any industrial setting where high-speed equipment failure poses a serious threat. A prototype has been developed and tested. The materials used for this technology are readily available off-the-shelf. The technology opportunity is part of the NASA Technology Transfer Program, the goal of which is to stimulate development of commercial applications of NASA developed technology. NASA is seeking industrial partners to continue the testing effort and license the technology for commercialization. The invention, "Energy Absorbing Protective Shroud," is protected under U. S. patent number 6,206,155 issued on March 27, 2001. The patent is owned by the United States of America and was developed by NASA.
