Create the Right Environment for Good Ideas

If you’re staring at a blank sheet of paper wondering where your next inspired idea is going to come from, take some time out and dose yourself up with 16 minutes of inspiration from Patrick Dixon.

The attached video is an excerpt of a speech the acclaimed futurist gave as part of a lecture on innovation at the EEN Business School, Salamanca, Spain.

During the talk Dixon touched on where to find inspired ideas, and how to create the right kind of thinking for out of the box ideas.

The keys to innovation are not rocket science, but in this chaotic and competitive world it’s no bad thing to be reminded of them.

One of Dixon’s rules of innovation is to find out where you get your best ideas and spend as much time there as you possibly can. It is integral for the survival of your business. For Dixon, one of his most exciting idea generation places is when you are half asleep, in the space between being awake and asleep.

“Your brain is the most important asset that you have. It’s your genius which creates the future,” he went on to say.

His talk also covered open innovation, how it works and the benefits it can bring, calling it one of the most powerful ways to increase innovation.

Dr Patrick Dixon is an author, business consultant, futurist and Chairman of the trends forecasting company Global Change Ltd.
