Education

LaVera Caston

I earned the BS degree in Chemistry from Bishop College. I earned both MS and PhD degrees at Florida A&M University (FAMU), College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. My major is Pharmaceutical Sciences/Pharmacology/Toxicology. My emphasis is cardiovascular physiology/pharmacology. I have performed research relating hypertension to myocardial hypertrophy and the role of calcium. While in graduate school, I saw the need to mentor young adult college females. Since then, I coach young adult women, teens and girls. I first began mentoring by co-adopting children of two different families in different times and places, and assisted with socio-economical needs. Most of the females (>90%) I coach or mentor attend college, developed careers, and marry. I am presently mentoring 3 young adult females students at the University of Phoenix.
