The invention relates to a portable device for speech recognition and/or reconstruction by ultrasonically probing the vocal apparatus, wherein the device comprises at least one ultrasonic transducer (20) for generating an ultrasonic wave and receiving a wave reflected by the vocal apparatus of the user, and means for analyzing a signal generated by the ultrasonic transducer, characterized in that the device comprises locating means (21; 23) for determining a relative position of the ultrasonic transducer in relation to the skull of the user.
