Novel isoform of versican and use in diagnosis and therapy

An isolated and purified nucleic acid molecule having a nucleic acid sequence encoding the V4 isoform of versican, or a fragment thereof of at least 30 nucleotides comprising the exon boundary between exons 8a and 9 and a method and a kit for determining the presence and/or status of a tumor in a tissue of a patient by determining the presence and/or level of gene transcription of the V4 isoform of versican in such tissue. The V4 isoform of versican or a fragment thereof can also be used as a medicament, particularly in the treatment of breast cancer.
