An Objective, Quantitative Method to Predict Histological Subtype in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

The invention provides a method for determining the histotype of a non-small cell lung cancer tumor which comprises (a) determining the levels of expression of each of thyroid transcription factor-1 cytokeratm 5 cytokeratm-13 and epidermal growth factor receptor in a sample from the non-small cell lung cancer tumor (b) calculating a score based on the levels of expression determined m step (a) and (c) comparing the score obtained m step (b) with a predetermined reference score associated with histotypes of non small cell lung cancer wherein the tumor is determined to be an adenocarcinoma if the score obtained in fb) is greater than the predetermined reference score and wherein the tumor is determined to be a squamous cell carcinoma if the score obtained in (b) is less than the predetermined reference score
