Methods for Identifying Modulators of the Pp2a B56 Beta Regulatory Subunit

The present invention is based at least in part on the discovery that the PP2A B56 beta regulatory subunit plays a role in regulating insulin signaling by directly regulating phosphorylation of AKT-I. Accordingly, the present invention features methods of identifying modulators of the PP2A B56 beta regulatory subunit in assays featuring organisms and/or cells. Further featured are therapeutic methods for the use of PP2A B56 beta regulatory subunit modulators to enhance longevity, to prevent or treat cancer, to prevent or reduce obesity and to prevent or treat type II diabetes.
