WNT Pathway Antagonists

The Wnt signaling pathway is known for its important role in inductive interactions that regulate cellular growth and differentiation, and likely also plays important roles in the homeostatic maintenance of post-embryonic tissue integrity. The present invention relates to the discovery that signal transduction pathways regulated by Wnt signaling proteins can be inhibited, at least in part, by small molecules and makes available methods and reagents for inhibition of activation of the Wnt signaling pathway, e.g., to inhibit aberrant growth states, comprising contacting the cell with an agent, such as a small molecule, in a sufficient amount to inhibit Wnt pathway activity and to reverse or control the aberrant growth state. Description (Set) Proposed Use (Set) The subject treatments using Wnt pathway antagonists can be effective as small molecule therapeutics and methods of use for certain malignancies or cancer in both human and animal subjects. Animal subjects to which the invention is applicable extend to both companion animals and livestock.
