Unexpected Cross-neutralization of Cutaneous & Mucosal Papillomavirus Types with Anti-Sera to a Novel Epitopes

High risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a common cause of cervical cancer. Researchers at JHU have found that vaccination with the N terminus of HPV16 and bovine papillomavirus 1 can induce cross neutralizing antibodies that inhibit in vitro generated pseudovirus infection of both cutaneous and genital types that infect both humans and animals. Description (Set) Proposed Use (Set) The invention could be developed into a simple protein-based vaccine to broadly prevent genital and cutaneous papillomavirus infections. The fact that the vaccination appears to have such a wide spectrum of activity against animal papillomavirus suggests that it could be developed for veterinarian use as well
