Processes for Regulating Blood Glucose in a Mammal and Novel Polypeptides Useful in Nad Biosynthesis

Scientists at JHU have discovered of a novel blood-circulating form of Nampt. This novel isoform a slightly higher molecular mass compared to the intracellular form of Nampt and is mainly secreted by brown adipose tissue or cells in mice. Scientists at JHU also have created a novel use for the HIB-1 B brown pre adipocyte cell line to produce the novel isoform. Description (Set) Proposed Use (Set) 1. NAD-related compounds (nicotinamide, nicotinamide mononucleotide, and NAD) and their derivatives will be useful to control blood glucose levels as therapeutic reagents. 2. The modified, secreted form of Nampt will also be useful to control systemic NAD biosynthesis and glucose metabolism as a therapeutic reagent. 3. The HIB-1 B cells will be useful for the mass production of the secreted form of mammalian Nampt.
