Tau C3 Monoclonal Antibody (23065)

Recently, a new antibody specific for caspase cleaved Tau was developed at Northwestern University. This antibody Tau C3, is a mouse monoclonal antibody (mAb) that binds to human tau truncated at aspartic acid 421 as demonstrated by ELISA and immunoblot assays. The antibody stains amyloid beta treated neurons and brain tissue in Alzheimer’s disease, more specifically it stains a subset of neurofibrillary tangles, tau-containing neuritic plaques and neuropil threads.

ADVANTAGES:The Tau C3 mAb, with its high affinity for the immunogen, is a powerful tool for the detection of caspase cleaved tau in tissue and in solid phase assays . In addition to its use in tissue staining it may also be used for pull-down assays.

The Tau C3 mAb was derived from a hybridoma cell line created through the fusion of SP2/o myeloma cells with splenocytes from a mouse immunized with a peptide corresponding the the C-terminus of tau truncated as aspartic acid 421. The hybridoma cell line (IgG1 subtype) was subcloned four times and stored in frozen liquid nitrogen. Tau C3 is specific for tau truncated at aspartic acid 421; it neither reacts with full length tau, nor does it react with other tau C-terminal truncations. Further information regarding this antibody is available in the following reference: Caspase cleavage of tau: Linking amyloid and neurofibrillary tangles in Alzheimer’s disease. Gamblin, et al. PNAS. Published online July 29, 2003.
