Narp Expression and Regulation in Brain

Abstract (Set) A novel neuronal cell growth factor, neuronal-activity regulated pentraxin or NARP and its encoding cDNA sequence is provided in this invention. Narp induces dendritic neurite outgrowth, promotes neuronal migration, may modulate intermediate early gene expression in neuronal tissue and facilitates aggregation of AMPA receptors. Description (Set) Proposed Use (Set) Methods for identifying compounds which affect the formation of synaptic connections and for increasing the number of excitory synapses of a neuron are provided. The use of NARP as a potential therapeutic is discussed in the above applications.
