Computerized Medical Record for Labor, Delivery, Postpartum, & Nursery

This invention, nicknamed OB.exe, comprises a computerized medical record and a database system that actively manages information on normal laboring women and term newborns. The database captures 800 data elements representing more than 90% of the patients clinical data (excluding fetal monitoring). These data elements are entered and viewed via graphical user interface (GUI) forms or screens. Most of the data entry is via picklists that facilitate rapid, organized information retrieval and minimize clerical errors. Using commonly established milestones of labor, notices and reminders appear on the screen to guide the management of labor for the patient. If a physician orders a test or procedure that is not included in Routine Admission Orders, a pop-up alert will appear on the screen to inform the physician that the care plan is deviating from the expected clinical course of a normal term newborn.

Benefits
The technological complexity of care for newborns and their mothers call for a data management system to ensure an effective, documented process. In addition, increased pressure by health-care payers makes an integrated medical record important for billing.

This platform offers total data management at the click of a mouse. The platform is fast, powerful and flexible to provide accurate data and adapt to specific provider needs.

Stage of Development
This technology has been demonstrated to work in proof-of-concept experiments. It is available for developmental research support and licensing under either exclusive or non-exclusive terms.
