Contaminated Soil Remediation Process

This technology describes a method of extraction of recalcitrant chemical contaminants from solid media. This is done by using ozone and supercritical CO2 together to bring about a chemical conversion within the solid media. The use of ozone and CO2 together is expected to extract and convert the contaminants into inert products such as water and CO2. The same treatment can also be used to upgrade asphaltenes in tar sands into valuable chemicals.

Benefits
*Treatment of contaminated soil and sediments
*Upgrading asphaltenese in tar sands into valuable chemicals

Stage of Development
This technology is part of an active and ongoing research program.
