Novel Allele-Specific Primer Design for Quantitative, Sensitive, Allele Frequency Determination

The present invention provides a novel primer design for real-time quantitative allele-specific PCR (AS-PCR), which results in improved sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility of detection. The utility of this approach has been demonstrated by using quantization of JAK2 G88526T SNP somatic mutation under more than one kinetic PCR platform.

Benefits
The use of this primer design in quantitative kinetic PCR technique has very broad applications. Several examples are:
 Detection of minimal residual disease caused by somatic mutations.
 Monitoring of heteroplasty and homoplasty of disorders caused by mitochondrial mutations causing diseases;
 Monitoring RH fetal incompatibility and its treatment;
 Monitoring of resistant clones such as in HIV infection and its treatment;
 Monitoring of leukemia and other hematological cancers associated with somatic mutations.

Stage of Development
A provisional patent application has been filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
This technology is available for licensing under either exclusive or non-exclusive terms
