The invention relates to an apparatus designed as a robot for the autonomous, unmanned determination of leaks releasing substances into the surroundings from pressurized systems, particularly pipe systems, said apparatus comprising a motor-operated movement platform, such as a chassis, having a sensor system for localizing and navigating the chassis in the region of the pressurized system, said apparatus further comprising at least one optical remote measuring device for detecting and localizing a leak, wherein the remote measuring device can be moved in all three spatial axes and wherein the optical remote measuring device is in communication with the chassis of the robot, wherein the evaluation of the data from the remote measuring device and the communication between the remote measuring device and movement platform of the robot are automated.
