External Combustion Engine

The technology permit an instantaneous torque management for Stirling engines.

The technology enable a bi-cylindrical external combustion engine to modulate instantaneously the torque delivered to the drive shaft, thanks an action on the moving parts that produce a variation of motor phase characteristic, and the reciprocal, angular, position of the hot and the cold cylinder.

The main innovation of the engine is based on the possibility of varying in a simple way the power on the shaft, so the motor can be used not only as a power generation system but also as mechanical propeller for marine or automotive traction.
The engines currently available on the international market are based on designs and dated materials and therefore economically unattractive. A significant strength of the solution proposed by Innovative Technological Systems is the substantial reduction of generated polluting emissions compared to conventional engines.

This characteristics, guaranteed by the innovation, produce some point of straight for the application of a external combustion engine in different technological field:

Use the external combustion engine, in particular Stirling type for powertrain application: the engine functionalities that are presented in the patent, permit the utilization of the engine in standard powertrain system. It’s a breakthrough technology that will permit to change the technology status quo in the powertrain systems market.

The engine can work with different fuels types: the combustion chamber is not strictly connected with the engine movement parts. This feature permit the modification of the combustion chamber and in particular of the burner , according to the fuel type that is chose. This feature permit the utilization of multiple fuel even simultaneously, in co-firing modality.

Low emission an CO2 zero balance: the burners are more efficient than the internal combustion engine in terms of emission of CO2 . If the fuel for the external combustion engine is a biomass fuel the CO2 balance is zero. In order to produce engines more sustainable, this is an important advantages.

Competitive efficiencies with the internal combustion engines: the efficiency of the external combustion engines is competitive with the efficiency of the external especially and is around the 30% mechanical efficiency (experimental data on engine prototype).

Manufacturing process semplification: the production process of an external combustion engine, especially Stirling, is more simple respect the normal internal combustion engines. Principally due to the movement parts reduction and the simplification of the injection systems, the combustion chamber, and there are a minor number of the parts subject to wear.

The principal market that we imagine for the technology is the non road engines market. In particular the agricultural low power engines, used in small tractors, small agricultural equipment and gardening equipment. But thanks the evolution of technology and others concurrent technologies we can identify future utilization's field, like: military, land and sea vehicles, heat and cooling system connected whit heat pump technologies, every kind of agricultural vehicles and in field machinery, vehicles used in territories with logistic supply problems of fuel.
