Fluorescent Microglial Cell Lines

Introduction Microglial cells are the resident immune cells of the central nervous system. Upon brain damage, these cells are rapidly activated and transform from a resting state into activated microglia. They share many properties with peripheral tissue macrophages, one of them being their inherent difficulty to be transfected or transduced. Currently there is no stable transgenic microglia cell line at all. Researchers at the University of Washington have developed a viral-based transduction system by which GFP was introduced as a transgene. Technology description Our scientists provide here stably transduced microglial/brain macrophage cell lines expressing GFP at defined levels. Business Opportunity For use in fluorescent-based assays which usually necessitate the exogenous fluorescent labeling of cells (e.g. proliferation, chemotaxis) in high throughput compound screening.
