Portland-based Crowd Supply will not only manage the fundraising campaign, but it will also help funded projects with a website to sell their wares, and assistance with warehousing and business development needs.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is turning to the crowd to help improve how robotic vehicles rendezvous in space.

The agency has created the AstroDrone app for owners of a radio controlled flying copter called Parrot AR. Drone. The toy flies on four rotors and can be controlled with Android devices and iOS devices such as iPhones and iPads.   It is popular with many iPhone users and around half a million units have been sold since it was launched in 2010.

Crowdfunding could be ushering in a new era of movie development, delivering films that producers know the audience wants to see.

Veronica Mars was a cult hit TV show about a teenage private eye that ran for three seasons between 2004 and 2007.

The show’s creator had an idea for a movie but his pitch didn't convince studio bosses.  So he turned to the crowd, hoping to raise $2 million in 30 days. Within hours a number of Kickstarter records were shattered.

In October 2012 USAID (United States Agency for International Development ) and Humanity United launched the Tech Challenge for Atrocity Prevention.

This is an open innovation contest for the development of innovative concepts and new technologies to help prevent such mass atrocities as genocide and ethnic cleansing.

There are five challenges in total. Two of those are now closed and the winners have been announced, but three new challenges have just been opened. They offer up to $10,000 for winning problem solvers.

Earlier this year we put up a post about DJ and producer Avicii’s attempt to create a crowdsourced hit song.

He sent out a call to action to his fans and fellow musicians to submit audio samples, effects and melodies. The track has now been finished and is on general release.
